🔹 Introduction

Organic chemistry ka sabse pehla aur fundamental step hota hai IUPAC nomenclature samajhna. JEE aspirants ke liye iska strong base hona zaroori hai kyunki numerical aur reasoning questions isi pe based hote hain.

1️⃣ IUPAC Naming Rules (Step by Step)

(a) Longest Chain Rule

Compound me jo sabse badi continuous carbon chain hogi usse parent chain choose karte hain.

Example: CH3–CH2–CH2–CH3 → Longest chain = 4 carbons → Butane.

(b) Numbering the Chain

Parent chain ko is tarah number do ki substituents (branches or functional groups) ko minimum number mile.

(c) Naming Substituents

Side chains ko alkyl group ke form me likho.

Example: –CH3 = Methyl, –C2H5 = Ethyl.

(d) Functional Group Priority

Functional groups ki ek priority order hoti hai. Highest priority ko suffix me likha jata hai, baaki ko prefix ke form me.

Carboxylic acid > Ester > Amide > Aldehyde > Ketone > Alcohol > Amine > Alkene > Alkyne > Alkane > Halo group

(e) Multiple Substituents

Agar ek se zyada same substituent ho, toh di-, tri-, tetra- use karte hain.

Example: CH3–CH(CH3)–CH(CH3)–CH3 → 2,3-Dimethylbutane.

Always check longest carbon chain including double/triple bond.

Functional group ko hamesha lowest possible locant do.

Prefix alphabetically arrange karo (Methyl, Ethyl, Chloro, Bromo etc.).

If tie ho jaaye numbering me, toh multiple bonds > substituents.
